Looking for a good book to read for the holidays? There is a series of books about K9 Search and Rescue that might be just what you’re looking for, written by one of the members of Mid-MN K9, Sharolyn Sievert!
Sharolyn, a Dog Writer's Assoc. of America Maxwell award winning writer, fictionalized many of her experiences as a Search and Rescue K9 handler into a series of books known as the “K-9 Search” novels.
While the stories are fictionalized, the dogs in her novels are her real working partners,
so you’ll meet K9 Ari, a true gentleman of a dog, along with K9 Gus, the comic mixed
breed. K9 Jael comes along in the second novel, another German Shepherd with a
mind of her own, and then, in novel number four, K9 Levia, a Rhodesian Ridgeback that loves to track.
When reading about these dogs, you’ll have a taste of what responding to a missing
person search is like – without having to actually get muddy, bloody, cold, or mosquito bitten! One reviewer wrote, “laughter and tears. a really feel-good collection. Each was hard to put down till the end but great to pick up another. really hope she writes more.”
We think you’ll enjoy the books as well and learn more about the world of missing
person searches in the process. They are a series, so reading them in order is helpful:
K-9 Search: One Handler’s Journey
K-9 Search: Journey Through the Storm
K-9 Search: Navigating the Journey
K-9 Search: Journey of the Lions
