Following the heartbreaking tragedy that took the lives of Melissa and Mark Hortman and their beloved golden retriever, Gilbert, the Mid-MN K9 Emergency Responder and Crisis Response Therapy Dogs were honored to be called in to provide emotional support to staff at the Minnesota House of Representatives at the Capital Complex.
Deployed through the Minnesota Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) and the Disaster Behavioral Health Program at the Minnesota Department of Health, our therapy dog team provided comfort, a calming presence, and joy to staff and public servants processing the traumatic events.

We are honored to have been trusted with this responsibility and remain committed to serving when our community needs us most. With heartfelt sympathy, we remember the Hortmans and Gilbert and stand with all those affected.
