Training Opportunity - Pet First Aid & CPR Classes

One of the requirements of being a Search and Rescue K9 handler is taking a First Aid / CPR class for dogs, because bad things can happen during a search, and we can’t call 911 for our dogs. Out in the field, having the knowledge to help our dogs survive is

paramount.

For anyone who has a pet, no matter if they are a beloved couch potato or a favorite hunting dog, when there is a medical emergency, every one of us wants to do our best for them. By taking a pet CPR/First Aid class, it puts all of us in a better position to know what to do in that moment of an emergency.

While there are online classes, taking an in-person class that includes hands-on training, and practice gives us far more confidence when we need to use those skills for real. Especially when it comes to CPR, choking, and bleeding management.

Some other things to look for in a class is a student manual that you can bring home for future reference. The class should include things like CPR, Rescue Breathing, Choking Management, Bleeding Protocols, Shock, Injury Assessments, and environmental-related injuries, was well as health and wellness tips. By taking a good class, you my just save yourself hundreds of dollars on an emergency vet visit someday!

In our Mid-MN K9 area, Alexandria Community Ed is hosting just such a class on March 8, 2025, taught by member Sharolyn Sievert. Find more info here!
